John has had many acting roles.

Locally John has played St. George at an event celebrating St. George’s Day 2010, the play was the traditional St. George and the Dragon story and was performed at The Old School Hall in East Harling, Norfolk. John also played The Colonel Gung Ho character, who was the lead role in a Murder mystery presentation. The play was preformed and then audience were invited to work out who the murderer was. This was also held at The Old School Hall, East Harling, Norfolk. John also played the Chairman, the man with the long words etc. at the Old Time Music Hall at East Harling, Norfolk.


John has spent many years performing in choirs. These have included:

* The choir of the University of East Anglia.
* The Norwich Festival Chorus.
* The Bury Back Choir in Bury St. Edmunds with whom he still performs.
* John is also a chorister in the Choir of East Harling Church.

Opera & Light Opera

For many years John performed with three different operatic groups:

* Norfolk Opera players  - Grand Opera
* Claxton Opera – Grand and Chamber Opera
* East Norfolk Operatic Society – mostly the work of Gilbert and Sullivan.

John has appeared in a large number of operas which have included some of the best known works in the genre and has performed in  a number of locations which have included: St. Andrew’s Hall, Norwich & the Maddermarket Theatre and Theatre Royal Norwich.

* Bitter Sweet – Noel Coward
* Acis and Galatea – Handel
* The Yeoman of the Guard – Gilbert and Sullivan
* Patience – Gilbert and Sullivan


John has sung both chorus and Solo roles. Solo roles have included:

* Bogdanovitch  in the Merry Widow
* Brazil – in La Vie Parisienne – concert version
* Major Murgatroyd in Patience
* Dancairo – in Carmen.
